Coming straight from Paris, Uppermost has been in the music game since an early age, and definitely has a ton more to show us. You’ve heard his track “Disco Kids” in a Mercedes-Benz ad and now he’s back in the spotlight once more with his video for “Make a Change”. The French House artist is keeping fans on edge with a new album, “Perseverance”, up for release at the beginning of 2018. So get ready to get excited with Uppermost’s new music by reading the full interview below!
RR: You recently released the official video for “Make a Change” and, I have to say, we absolutely loved it! What was the idea behind the concept?
Thanks guys! I wanted to convey the feeling of freedom you get when you’re focused on what you love doing. It all starts with the decision to make a change, from there it’s only a matter of practice and time. We talked a lot about this with the video director Joseph Carlin from the Transfixion team and he delivered an excellent, inspiring result!
RR:How was it received by the public?
Pretty well, I’m grateful for the huge support it received. When you work on a project like this, the ultimate goal is to share a strong feeling with the world. So when the music reaches its destination, it always feels like the best reward you could hope for.
RR:In the video, everybody is using their favourite means of transportation. What’s yours?
Music of course, but I have to say I love Parkour too! Spending hours training outside can be really inspiring.
RR:Your newest album, “Perseverance”, is only a few months away from being released. Can you tell us a bit more about the creative process behind it, what was working on this album like?
The process of making this album felt like my very first one. An urge to express the things I went through, an escape, it really felt like the one and only way out.
RR:What’s different about it? Are you experimenting with sound or are you trying to further cement your particular style?
I didn’t have a specific idea in mind when working on this album, I think the whole thing sounds like a wide blend of inspirations from Nu Disco to Hip Hop.
RR:Any collabs we can already get excited about?
Seven vocalists have worked with me on this new album, I’ll share the first one in the following weeks! I’ve also worked on two remixes recently for Flyboy and Dutch Party, both very talented artists.
RR:You’re going on tour soon! How excited are you?
Very, very excited. It’s the first proper live tour I’ll be doing with a bassist and a guitarist, it’s also the first time I’m going to play in the USA. I’ve been working very hard to turn this dream into reality! I can’t wait.
RR:”Perseverance” will be released through your own label, UPPWIND. How is the life of a label owner like? Do you get to meet a lot of upcoming artists?
The goal is the same since day one, creating a community where passionate people from different backgrounds can share the things they love together. The hardest part is giving the label enough momentum in order to really help artists get exposure, I’ve been following few producers for a while that I’d love to sign on Uppwind, but I’m still waiting for the right time to open the label.
RR:I’m curious, is there something you can do to put you in the mood for producing or is it something based on inspiration?
Inspiration is unpredictable most of the time, but I feel that hardships can really trigger something in me, the need to express pure emotions. It comes from experiences that deeply move you, from simple things such as watching a movie to more personal events that push you to the limits.
RR: Any crazy stories about fans or shows?
I’m always amazed by the sincerity and passion coming from the people that I meet at my gigs. It reminds me of myself when I’m full of inspiration. The craziness I meet when I play some shows is incredible, it’s a powerful feeling, like we are all celebrating the same passion in front of each other without any filter or mask.
