Most fans of current music and the scene that accompanies it has heard of Vans Warped Tour. A music and extreme sports traveling festival, they offer a very diverse and independent lineup that you can’t find anywhere else.
Primarily known for their punk-rock showcase, the tour has evolved over years to offer much more options, attracting fans of multiple genres. This summer’s tour, taking place from June 15th to August 4th, will feature prominent electronic artists Big Chocolate, Crizzly, and Run DMT, among others.
“Each year as the tour takes shape it is exciting to see it when it comes together. It would be impossible to put on a tour of this size and caliber, for a fair price, if we did not have the support of this wonderful group of sponsors. We’re able to bring the best show possible and in 2013, I’m convinced we will not let the fans down.” – Kevin Lynman, founder of Vans Warped Tour
The emergence of pretty big name EDM acts into multi-genre festivals is a recurring theme. We have seen events such as Bonnaroo and Hangout – who were not particularly known for their electronic music selection – included more and more electronic artists in their lineups. The EDM fan population is growing everyday, so its obvious that festival coordinators are trying to tap this audience.
I believe their selections for this year’s festival run are really fitting. Dubstep and trap are certainly the EDM sub-genres of choice for younger fans (which Warped Tour usually aims for). Crizzly and Run DMT fit this bill perfectly, with Big Chocolate being a more interesting choice. I think he will be a good fit as well, though, because of his unique style of production, leaning very trap-like. With many parallels in structure between heavy bass music and punk-rock, these artists will perfectly align into the festival tour.
