Add Vertigo Festival to the long list of music festivals that have been cancelled or postponed this year. Officially Vertigo experienced issues with paperwork and licensing in Italy that wouldn’t have allowed them to carry out the festival. Unfortunately excuses like this fail to appease anyone when the event is less than a month away.
In an effort to salvage any sort of PR, the festival is reportedly “coming back in 2014” and are working on refunding all ticket holders.
Rick Frost, Vertigo Festival organizer issued statement:
“We would like to apologise to our ticket holders for the change in plans, we can promise however that we will be back in 2014 with the most spectacular event with more artists and the best entertainment you can imagine”.
It’s sad when companies can’t take fault for their mistakes. Instead of assigning ownership and explaining what happened to the public, Frost is too busy trying to move them on to 2014. That’s difficult when your patrons were planning to be in Italy in less than a month.
Quotes taken from Mixmag, a media partner for Vertigo, read purely like a press release and do nothing to let fans know what really happened. It’s difficult to call paperwork and licensing failure by the organization “unforseen circumstances”.
“@Mixmag: Due to unforeseen circumstances, @Vertigo_Italy Festival has been postponed until 2014: http://t.co/QX9ZfxdVEC” unforeseen. Hmmm?

If there’s anything in electronic dance music that’s truly indicative of a “bubble” and impending crash, it’s these first time music festivals canceling. They aren’t just ruining the experience for their attendees, but negatively impacting the scene.
Here’s what people are saying:
I’ve never known a festival to be so badly run . . . Postponed by 10 months, less than a month before it’s on. @Vertigo_Italy
