After much anticipation, Vinicius Honorio just released an outstandingly hard-hitting Through the Darkness EP. Fair warning to all: it’s not one for the faint of heart.
This rising Brazilian native began his career producing jungle/drum and bass as part of the duo BTK. Through this he eventually found his vibe and followed his heart down the rabbit hole that lead him to the depths of techno. In an interview with Decoded magazine, he said that “I will always have a soft spot for drum and bass, but techno is who I am and always been.” Now following his own path, he’s quickly becoming a master at his craft and many have taken notice. Currently residing in London, Vinicius Honorio has released on labels such as Elevate and Unity Records, was featured in Space Ibiza’s 27 compilation, and his music has become staples in the sets of industry power heads Alan Fitzpatrick and Adam Beyer. Most recently, he was named one of Techno’s top five future stars by Drumcode Records, a.k.a. the undisputed authority on all things Techno. Released only a few days ago, this latest EP is a prime example of why he’s been garnering so much attention lately and is well on his way to become one of the greats of this genre.
As his first release on Drumcode Records, Through the Darkness is a four-track EP erupting with earth-shattering drums. The first track “Walking Shadow” wastes no time to get your heart pounding at a rapid pace. Undertones of jungle/drum and bass influences are skillfully infused from beginning to end. Next is the title-track “Through the Darkness,” featuring groovy drums strung along by an ominous vocal. The third track “Desolate” is the heaviest of them all, with a powerfully eerie vibe made up of thundering drum hits and intergalactic-like notes. Finally, closing up the EP is “Out for Blood,” a mix that seamlessly brings together all of hard levels of drums and varying sounds from each of the aforementioned tracks. Another FYI to all, there’s somewhat of a shock factor to all of your senses when you first listen, one that is downright tight and heavy. Even after just one run-through (although we’ve had this on repeat since its release date) we can honest say we haven’t had this good a dose of dark techno in some time.
