Vitalic is a behemoth of electronic dance music and Voyager is his first album since 2012’s Rave Age that encapsulates true ‘old school new wave’.
French artist Pascal Arbez’s new single “Waiting For The Stars” merges 1980s electro with 1990s techno to create an intergalactic sound featuring Manchester born and bred house talent David Shaw and The Beat. This shoulder-shrugging step in time number is sure to be an enigmatic cross-genre track, but others on the ‘Voyager’ have more potential to soar to the heights of summer club anthem “La Rock 01” from 2001.
“Levitation” is another big track reminiscent of British electronica Faithless’ early sound and is the most likely from Vitalic’s new record to become a foggy basement floor filler, alongside “Nozomi”, a personal album favourite of mine. Definitely one for the dancers and this kind of vibe seems to be what Arbez is heading for, as was seen with the reemergence of “Poison Lips” last year. “El Viaje” harkens back to the day of Super Nintendo Entertainment System with buzzing electronic beats and definitely takes you on a ‘trip’, as per the song’s namesake.
Vitalic navigates you through the journey of the 42 minute album Voyager and as he’s been described: “The only thing he can’t fake is the emotion that galvanises his music.”
