Liquid Stranger’s label Wakaan blew up last year after an insane tour with contributors Space Jesus and Au5. Since then the brand has only grown following a string of creative releases that embrace the weirder side of heavy bass music. One of the most exciting things the label has done in the past year has been their Wakaan Takeovers, which invades Webster Hall later this month for a very special edition of Girls + Boys. The take over will feature Liquid Stranger himself, as well as Space Jesus, Esseks, and Perkulator, all of whom are primed to deliver vastly different, yet equally memorable sets.
Perkulat0r has gained a big following for his soul-filled style of music, which focuses on spacey atmospheres, and crisp basslines playing chilling melodies. He never goes into a song without thinking about what emotions the listener will feel, and exactly what musical journey he can take them on.
Esseks is an artist who has evolved drastically in the past year or so, building on his affinity for vocal chops and spooky melodies to create sonic paintings that leave you with the feeling that someone is watching you. His live sets are a wonky wonderland of sounds and melodies that sculpt their own identity in a scene overpopulated with copycats.
Space Jesus’ time being mentored by Liquid Stranger has helped him redefine his sound, putting the producer on the top of his game. His unique combination of hiphop and psychedelic music has taken the bass music world by storm, inspiring countless weirdos to get down like nobody’s watching. You never quite know what you’ll get with Space Jesus, but you can always trust him to go his absolute hardest.
Liquid Stranger has been taking bass lovers for a loop for years, first with his dub reggae tunes, and then with his releases on monster dubstep label Rottum Records. Despite being an OJ, he is still finding new was to explore and re-invent himself. Surrounding himself with the amazing creatives of Wakaan has only made his music that much better.
