Well, it seems as though anyone can be a DJ these days, and Toronto’s mayor, Rob Ford, is no exception. A few days ago, the all-too-well-known mayor ventured to a fundraising event at Rivoli club in Toronto, and with lots of encouragement from the crowd, got up on stage and had a go at making a beat on a MIDI pad. With SXSW coming up in March, Toronto’s Beat Academy has been endeavouring to send a group of producers and DJs to the event, which will take place in Austin, Texas. Rob Ford also presented the team with a plaque, commending them on their efforts, in addition to receiving his beat-making lesson from DJ/producer Memorecks. This would not be the first time the Mayor has publicly displayed his interest in electronic music, and he has often made appearances in clubs all over Toronto, seeking to appeal to the younger generation of voters.
