Don’t get me wrong, spending every waking moment downloading new tracks, looking up new artists, and making time in a timeless schedule to listen to all the new sets or DJ radio shows, are few great reasons why when a show/festival goes on sale my excitement is through the roof. Music is a passion for many of us. Whether we create it or just enjoy constantly listening to it, it is a passion. What makes music better is seeing it live and in person. What can be a more impressive way to see music other than live? Live performances incorporate not only sound, but also elaborate visuals from the production. Think about your first show, how mind-blown were you? I couldn’t believe my eyes. On top of that artists are constantly trying to outdo each other and their previous work.
- Morgan Page is in the middle of his MPP3D tour. If you haven’t seen this for yourself, I strongly urge you to! His shows are already a jaw-dropping experience, and now with his visuals in 3D, it takes seeing a show live to a whole new level. Getting lost in the music and the visuals at the same time is one of the greatest sensory overloads in life.
- Just two weeks ago, Dada Life broke a Guinness World Book of records in Chicago for the world’s largest pillow fight! What could be more fun than that?
- Armin Van Buuren announced on his twitter account that his future Armin Only: Intense tour is going to have the biggest DJ set ever used in history!
All of these are more than enough reason to go to countless numbers of shows, trust me. Although, there are other reasons that we go. Reasons that aren’t necessarily music focused. In my case, and many people I met at shows can agree, that the community is a HUGE reason we keep coming back for more. Regardless of whether you didn’t have many friends as a child, or were the coolest kid at school. Whether your life has been a rough one, or if you are just having a bad day. Even if you are having the best year of your life, nothing can perk up your mood like experiencing a show.
Our community especially is one of a kind. Judgments are put aside, and unique personalities are highly encouraged. In the Electric Daisy Carnival Experience Movie (2011) the police officers, that are hired to work the event, speak openly about how kind everyone is to one another at these shows, “It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen” says one of the cops. They continue to address that it is incredibly rare that a fight breaks out. Festival goers will run up to to the police with the biggest smile and give them a piece of kandi. These acts of kindness are not rare to experience at a show. There had been a point in time at TomorrowWorld where I had lost my entire group and spent all of Gareth Emery’s set talking to everyone around me. I met people at Lights All Night that I had so much fun with during the festival and now they have become some of my best friends, even if they are 4 states away.
Our scene is so loving, caring, and accepting. It is the PLUR that we all stand for. It’s impossible to stay away! Obviously, I’m not saying this is a sense to not be careful about your surroundings. ALWAYS be responsible for yourself and your friends! These experiences are not some that you go out and look for, they are intertwined in the whole experience that it is to attend a show/festival!
