As of late Melbourne bounce king Will Sparks has departed from his usual antics. A little over two weeks ago he released “Check This Out,” a big room track lacking his famous bounce elements, and yesterday he teased us with “When the Lights Go Out,” his very first track with a heavy emphasis on the vocals.
Whether the outcome is good or bad, we always appreciate when an artist takes risks. We are pleased to report that with Sparks, we are rarely disappointed. Once again the Aussie delivers his finest work with “When the Lights Go Out,” a powerful bounce track featuring eerie, emotive vocals from singer Troi.
The first thing I noticed when I heard this track was an apparent Deadmau5 influence, the lyrics and vocals reminiscent of the Canadian producer’s grungy, infernal sound. This is not to say that Sparks’ signature style isn’t also prominent, as he cleverly ties in his legendary bounce foundation in a fresh and effective way. Absolutely enamored with all of his recent experimenting, we can’t wait to hear the rest of the track, set to release May 9. Until then, check out the teaser below.
