Chicago native DJ/producers, Nicholas Winholt and Austin Woo, who comprise the burgeoning dance music duo, Win & Woo, have become renowned in the electronic music scene over the past several months for their consistent, and impressive deliverance of some striking remixes. Most recently, their remix of San Fermin’s mellow tune, “Emily“, captured the attention of many avid electronic music listeners, and received a widely positive response from fans. Made available as a free download, this tune is demonstrative of their proficiency with remixing, highlighting their remarkable ability to integrate their signature sound into the original.
Win & Woo’s take on “Emily” can be streamed and downloaded above via SoundCloud, and we have decided to highlight five of the duo’s most noteworthy remixes for your listening enjoyment, which can be streamed below. Be sure to also have a read through our exclusive interview with the duo:
1. Firstly, how did you two meet, and decide to start making music together?
“We met in college about 5 years ago and started to Dj under the name “Dirty Noize”. We started off playing barn dances and frat parties. Shortly there after we started to learn how to use ableton and dive into the club scene. It wasnt until January of 2014 that we started the Win and Woo project and began to release music we were truly proud of.”
2. Do you guys have similar tastes in music, or do you prefer different genres? How has that affected the music that you make together?
“We are close in music taste, however Nick (Win) tends to like music that is a little more “out there” where as Austin (Woo) has always been drawn to music that will please the masses. It’s a great contrast that helps keep our production interesting and pushes us both to work with different styles all the time.”
3. How do you guys divide up the work when producing new tracks, or do you both work on every aspect together?
“We split it up pretty evenly, however Woo is more technical (mixing, mastering, etc.) and Win tends to do more piano and guitar work.”
4. You’ve become known in the electronic music scene for your many striking remixes, are there any remixes that you guys have particularly enjoyed working on over the past few months?
“We really have a blast with all of our projects, if we are not they usually don’t get finished. I would say our track with EVVY was probably one of the most fun for us, although its hard to really say”
5. Where do you guys see yourselves in 5 years?
“We strive to be traveling the world with our music. Also we will have an solid EP out and build a really epic live show!”
