Earlier this morning, rising electronic artist Zedd took to twitter to give his thoughts about music fans today. He did not state whether or not this was directed at fans of just electronic music, but since this is the scene he’s most associated with, we can assume he is (though this should be applied to fans of ALL genres).
Zedd’s rant comes as no surprise, as there is a certain stigma attached to many fans of the rising electronic music scene for being “uneducated” about the foundations of the scene and what its truly about. He worries that with electronic music not being so “underground” anymore, fans are becoming more and more negative when their favorite artist goes “mainstream”.
He also states that fans should appreciate their favorite artists no matter what; even if they completely change their style or stick with the same one throughout their career. He stresses that fans are becoming over-critical of the music and not appreciating it as much as they should.
While these statements only reflect Zedd’s opinions and not our own, he does have a good point. The rising availability of music and artist coverage in this new age of technology comes with its pros and cons. We can only say that we agree with him on his statements about supporting your favorite artists; whether they become mainstream or stay underground, whether their music changes every album or never does at all, we at WRR are all thankful we have the opportunity to live in a time of all this great music in general.
