There was certainly not a shortage of bass this past Friday, November 7th, when Steez Promo brought yet another epic lineup to Echostage for Mega DC. If you’ve ever been to Mega you know that from beginning to end it’s an experience, and a killer one at that.
As the doors opened Baltimore DJ Nixsin took the stage followed by local Des McMahon who warmed up the crowd with some cooling dubstep and trap. Starting the lineup was Toronto based duo Thugli, who brought an energetic trap set that sat well with the earlybird crowd. They dropped some bounce worthy tracks such as Kendrick Lamars “Mad City” and their own cut of GTA & Diplo’s “Boy oh Boy.”
Next on the list was Los Angeles trap duo gLAdiator who took the stage and brought a sense of excitement with energy in their voice and track selection. They set the crowd off with their own rendition of LOUDPVCK’s “Tony.” I also heard some records that never fail to get a group of music lovers dancing such as Flosstradamus’ “Mosh Pit” and Knife Party’s “Fire Hive.” The overall vide of the world renowned venue, Echostage, was positive with a hint of turn up.
At the stroke of midnight Keys N Krates took the stage and treated us to a unique setlist filled with truly memorable moments. With their combination of electronic dance and live instrumentals alongside one of the craziest laser light shows I’ve seen, it was clear that the atmosphere in the room was perfect.
My favorite moment was when they dropped their own version of Steve Aoki’s “Boneless” and a partyrocking remix of “Jah No Partial.” It was a dynamic and visually stunning performance, you could tell everyone in the venue was 100% dialed in as they ended their time-slot by with their new single, “Are We Faded.”
Last but not least, it was time for the long awaited duo Zeds Dead to hit the Mega stage. Ravers may not have recognized this name, but when Richard Strauss’ “Also Sprach Zarathustra” started playing they knew something epic is was in the books. With rumbling bass and a blast of CO2 Zeds Dead was able to kick off the party “Ratchet.” Halfway through the set they dropped some fan favorites including “Bassmentality” and over all they had the whole venue dancing to one of my favorites, “Undah Yuh Skirt.”
The mix of surreal lighting and LED graphics pushed Zeds Dead’s performance over the top, making it one that DC won’t soon forget. They even dropped their highly anticipated remix of Jack U’s “Take U There” before briefly leaving the stage as a teaser for their encore.
