The illusive ZHU has resurfaced from Mind of A Genius with his new EP stardustexhalechasingmarrakechdreams, a four track collection displaying his evolution of sound. Taking steps further into darker sounds, the EP displays a unique mold of sound with elements of the older ZHU and hints of trap along with downtempo, leading to a final culmination of the highly anticipated collaboration with Nero.
The EP gently reels you in with “Stardust,” a track built around light glass synth work and the smooth vocals we’ve all come to adore from ZHU. “Exhale” and “Chasing Marrakech” are both tracks that catch attention, and display a new direction in ZHU’s sound with an amplification of low end. Finally, you are left with “Dreams,” a collaboration effort with the likes of the legendary electronic group, Nero. The track completely haunting, with an intro of chants that leads into a flurry of hard hitting industrial synth, reminiscent of REZZ and Gesaffelstein. A superb effort from the mind of ZHU. If this is the new direction for the shadowed producer, we simply cannot wait for what else is yet to come.
