Today, the final record of the Genesis Series debuted today with Rolling Stone. This caps ZHU’s project after six weeks of releases with AlunaGeorge, A-Trak, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and other collaborators. Each week brought fans new original works, the first since the critically acclaimed EP The NIGHTDAY, and has revealed the evolution in the phantom artist since his earlier darker sound.
As the Genesis Series wound to its close, the much anticipated ZHU x Skrillex x THEY collaboration ‘Working For It’ has been one of the top points of discussion on forums and social media especially ever since first live recordings of it surfaced online last week. Earlier this week, the release of the record was confirmed with Skrillex’s appearance in an animated short earlier this week.

This caps a year’s worth of speculation of the relationship between the two tastemaking producers since Skrillex first tweeted about ‘Faded’:
@thaliadavies @ZHUmusik thats gunna be biiigggggggg!

The unexpected appearance of Sonny at a ZHU set in Australia’s Stereosonic festival further fueled the rumor mill of ZHU’s true identity. Surely enough, the track features their distinctive styles: Skrillex’s ear for big beats and ZHU’s impeccable attention to melodic details.
With an emphatic melody and a massive accommodating beat, this record rocks speakers with its energy and showcases ZHU’s exploration in sound after his Grammy-nominated club hit “Faded” last year. This last chapter of the Genesis Series completes the diverse collection that revealed hints of the worldly music influences of the silent artist. Despite the rabid coverage by major outlets like Pitchfork and The Fader, the range of genres within the music explored leaves more excited anticipation of what his next sonic development will be than it provides.
