The Southern vibes are strong with Zoogma’s new EP, “A Future in Blue.” The four-piece electro-blues band from Nashville tapped into their roots to produce a long-awaited, truly diverse and delightfully twangy record.
A far cry from your standard electronic album, “A Future in Blue” is a funk and blues-filled journey yet with a touch of dubstep distortions and bass wubs. The contrast is all at once seamless, modernizing and exciting.
The EP’s first single (yet its closing track), “What It Is,” stands out as a highlight with its killer guitar riffs, harmonica, and a bassline to satisfy any future funk enthusiast.
“What We Gon’ Do,” a collaboration with Chicago-based producer Manic Focus, is both funky and outer spacey. “Way Down,” featuring Nickie Conley, is a powerful, electro-soul track and probably the most high energy song on the album.
Zoogma is known to be a top-notch live act, so once you’re done listening to “A Future in Blue”, check out their tour dates and get ready for an amazing, funktastic dance party.
