Whatever they put in the water in the Netherlands, I want some, because they seem to be pumping out producers at an astounding rate. Nearly every genre, from big room house, to electro house, to deeper offerings like deep house and tech house, has been championed by a Dutch producer, and they just keep coming. Mr. Belt & Wezol are two of the most exciting artists to hail from the Netherlands, and they’ve managed to differentiate themselves from the rest of the future house crowd by finding solace in the vocals of the past. They’ve delivered a piece of the 90s with their future house makeover of CeCe Peniston’s “Finally,” and now, they’ve teamed up with Freejak to revitalize yet another classic – Jefferson Airplane’s hit, “Somebody to Love.”
The threesome of producers keep the rock and roll personality of “Somebody to Love” intact, as the metallic guitar riffs, string arrangements, and Grace Slick’s instantly-recognizable , soul-saturated vocals build the track to a crescendo. At the drop of the track, Mr. Belt & Wezol and Freejak slide in to deliver a fun, yet addictively catchy, synth melody that makes this track more fitting for an early morning at the club, rather than at the very first Woodstock festival.
