Austin, Texas-born, Los Angeles-based artist DLG. released his latest EP, ‘CHARACTERS’. This new work showcases a blend of genres with a psychedelic undertone, reflecting his life experiences and the intriguing individuals he has encountered since relocating to Los Angeles. Dave De La Garza, known professionally as DLG., has successfully built anticipation for this release, which demonstrates both his confidence and his dynamic approach to music.
‘CHARACTERS’ draws from a rich blend of musical influences, including Jungle, Glass Animals, Mac Miller, The Marias, Tom Misch, and Still Woozy. The EP is notable for its eclectic, genre-defying style, shown off by a distinctive psychedelic jazz influence. This is particularly evident in DLG.’s approach to blending sounds and narratives to create a vivid musical exploration.
One of the standout tracks, ‘ICY’, is a reimagined version of DLG.’s debut song. Maintaining the original lyrics, this track has undergone significant production changes, inspired by past personal recordings of tabla music which infuse the song with a unique sound. DLG. describes the track as a culmination of previous attempts to perfect the song, with its final form catalyzed by revisiting old audio files featuring tabla sounds.
In addition to ‘ICY’, DLG. has introduced his audience to the EP with a series of singles that include ‘KUNG FU’, ‘OVER MY HEAD’, ‘STRANGERS’, ‘DIVE IN’, and ‘NO SLACK’ featuring Healy, as well as another new track ‘IT’S ALL GOOD’. These releases have garnered positive reactions, heightening anticipation for ‘CHARACTERS’.
