This past weekend, 88rising and Goldenvoice teamed up for another highly successful Head In The Clouds Music & Arts Festival. Returning to Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA, the festival celebrated Asian-American culture and music in the best way possible. This year’s festival featured a star-studded list of artists featuring Jackson Wang, Rich Brian, Keshi, MILLI, Jay Park, and the debut of the CLUB YEAR OF Dance Tent, which featured special guest DJ appearances from Autograf and Manilla Killa.
In true 88rising fashion, the festival brought back a wide assortment of activations and food offerings from 626 Night Market, an annual night market food festival that was inspired by the famous open-air nighttime bazaars of Asia, where people come together to eat, drink, and socialize, and other prominent LA restaurants. You could get all types of food ranging from dim sum to Korean BBQ.
The fourth annual Head In The Clouds Music & Arts Festival featured 2 live stages. On one end of the venue, we found the Double Happiness Stage, which featured live performances from artists like Thuy, Audrey Nuna + Deb Never, Yeek, and many more on day 1. Day 2 featured live performances from Indian-American singer-songwriter, Raveena, Koreatown legend, Dumbfoundead, and none other than Japanese legends, Teriyaki Boyz!
On the way to the 88rising main stage, we found a new tent bumping with loud music and bass, which we quickly found out was the new CLUB YEAR OF DANCE TENT stage. This new addition was exactly the thing this festival needed! A cool and vibey dance tent where music lovers can escape the heat for a moment before they go back to see their favorite artists. Day 1 featured sets from B, Hu Dat, Camgirl, and surprise guest Autograf. Day 2 featured sets from JackJack, Venessa Michaels, and surprise guest Manilla Killa.
The 88rising stage brought back the beloved cloud mascot, Clo, who was placed beautifully on top of the main stage as she announced each artist to grace the crowd. Day 1 showcase live performances from wide-ranging, top-notch Korean talent from Dabin and Chung Ha to Hojean and Jay Park. Thai rapper/singer MILLI performed her hit single, “Mango Sticky Rice” and the night ended with special headlining performances by Keshi and Joji’s debut DJ set under his new DJ moniker Yebi Labs.
Day 2 showcased live performances by Japanese girl group ATARASHII GAKKO!, Indonesian Hip-Hop artist Warren Hue and longtime Korean producer collaborator Chasu, and South Korean singer-songwriter, Bibi. The main stage also featured headlining sets by 88rising alumni and Indonesian born Rich Brian, and a special “Magic Man Experience” show by Chinese singer, record producer, and fashion designer Jackson Wang.
The two-day affair ended on the highest note on Sunday with a monumental finale featuring performances from Jackson Wang and MILLI, ATARASHII GAKKO!, Teriyaki Boyz, Rich Brian, Warren Hue, Chasu, August 08, and the greatest special appearance ever: Michelle Yeoh!!!
This year’s festival proved that 88Rising is still far from having just their heads in the clouds. They will continue to grow and innovate to newer heights that the world hasn’t seen before. We hope to see you there next year!
