With his music bordering mainstream pop [and producing Paris Hilton’s music], Afrojack has been facing a fair bit of criticism from the electronic music scene recently, and his newest remix of Avicii’s massive hit, “Wake Me Up”, is going to do nothing to change that. Avicii took the scene by storm with his release of “Wake Me Up” earlier this year, and its sheer diversity from the rest of the House music genre has since acted as a catalyst, and inspiration for innovation in electronic music. The track was also widely successful, being one of the best-selling singles of 2013.
Unfortunately, Afrojack’s remix does not seem to do such a track very much justice, as he has morphed it into a commercial-sounding, big-room house track, which seems to lack the energy and artistic mastery that Avicii had put in originally. Personally, I feel that Afrojack has pretty much butchered this track, and through his mainstream endeavours, is portraying electronic music in a rather negative light.
