I don’t know what you were doing when you were 16 years old, but I’m going to admit I was not half as cool as Alex Young. The kid is barely old enough to have a driver’s license, yet he absolutely brought the house down on Wednesday night at U Street Music Hall in Washington, DC. I went there under the impression that I was just going to see DJ Carnage, and to my surprise this High Schooler put on an amazing show.
Immediately after he began his set, I excitedly made my way to the front of the crowd where the energy was so hyped you would have thought Carnage came on early. Alex made a bold statement by opening up with tracks like his trap remix of SBTRKT‘s ‘Wildfire’ and what he calls a “moombahswag” remix of ‘Heartbreak’ by Childish Gambino. His style is innovative and confident. He seamlessly fuses the elements of electro, hip hop, and moombah into an intoxicating cocktail of sound that will have you in trapaholics anonymous.
