Los Angeles-based savant of intergalactic underground sounds, Anakim has released his latest EP Poseidon’s Revenge on Desert Hearts Black.
Rather than being made up of three individual tracks of similar stylings, Anakim has beautifully crafted a full sensorial listening experience. The EP opens with the title track’s lush drive, subtly pulling you into this dark and otherworldly space before picking up with a heavier bassline and piercing synths that will immediately entrance you. Almost unknowingly, it’s an effortless transition into “The High Priestess,” a track that offers up a beautifully haunting and infectious beat. The closer, “Alien in the Stargate,” is brooding with Anakim’s trademark sound we’ve come to love so much, and acts as the perfect ending to this stunning progressive house piece.
Regarding the EP, Anakim said: “The Poseidon’s Revenge EP is an important EP for me because it signified a major creative shift in my sound. I held on to it for a bit because I wanted it to find the perfect home. With divine timing, a friend of mine let me know Desert Hearts Black was being formed.“
Desert Hearts Black is the new imprint of the infamous Desert Hearts. Through this sub-label, the crew’s intention is to bring forth music that focuses on darker and heavier sounds, with artists who are willing to be creative in pushing boundaries in the dance music landscape.
A mainstay on our On Tuesdays We Techno series, Anakim has previously released his euphoric Oracle EP on EIN2 and made his debut on mau5trap with Heightened Sensitivity. In 2019, he played Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas for the first time, was named one of DJ Mag’s ‘Bubblin’ artists to watch, and opened for Testpilot, LeYouth and IlarioAlicante throughout Los Angeles’ premiere nightclubs and underground warehouses.
