Yesterday, the interwebz flooded with excitement and discussion regarding a teaser released by Spinnin’ Records titled ‘Animals’. The electro house anthem was widely dispersed to press inboxes innacurately labeled as a collaboration between Hardwell and GTA, a major mistake (considering these artists current popularity) by one of the industry’s most renowned labels.
Major Mistake
At the moment, Spinnin’ has not provided any public comment or retraction through social media. The only action taken was the removal of improper artist names from the release on it’s Youtube page, leaving the track without any production credits at all for now. Rumors and speculative opinions are flying everywhere around Facebook as to who actually put this piece together.
Or Brilliant Marketing?
Until Spinnin’ officially addresses the issue we won’t make a concrete statement towards proper credit. I’m not sure how you make a mistake of this magnitude, and further more, fail to address it with a the slightest sense of urgency. Something doesn’t seem right here and if you ask me, this could be one of the more genius marketing/ publicity stunts I’ve ever seen… purposeful or not.
Let’s face it, if the track had been properly labelled as “Martin Garrix ft. Sidney Samson“, ‘Animals’ wouldn’t have received near the amount of plays, social media sharing or blog coverage as the very same music touted to be a collaboration between two of the most relevant names in current edm.
Sure, Garrix is a supreme talent, but is his marketability even comparable? No. Hardwell will hit the mainstage at every festival he attends this Summer while GTA are moving to the scene’s forefront alongside a guiding hand from Mad Decent and Diplo.
‘Animals’ has racked up 55,000+ plays and we’re talking about it more, right now, by spreading the necessary knowledge of yesterday’s mistake. It’s been covered by the largest electronic dance publications on the web, exposing itself to critical opinions anonymously, for the moment at least.
Note: We have confirmed that this track is a single from Martin Garrix, however, the “Sidney Samson feature” has not been solidified yet. Stay tuned for further updates.
