According to the Miami Police Department; 167 people were arrested over both weekends of Ultra, 81 Weekend One and 87 Weekend Two. While some arrests were narcotics related, the biggest problem were the Olympic style fencejumpers.
With a total expected attendance of 300,000, we can estimate that around .06% of the attendees were arrested.
That makes 1 person arrested for every 1,796 attendees.
A comparison of arrest rates:
- In the United States (2010) 4.2%
- National Basketball Association (2010) 5.1%
- Miami Dade County (2011) 5.2%
- Ultra Music Festival (2013) .06%
So I guess this means that when thousands of ravers get together that it isn’t so bad after all.
We applaud the festival organizers, MPD and the city of Miami for holding such a large scale event and promoting a safe environment.
Now if only someone could show this to the LA Times...
