Just days before they were set to perform, two of the world’s biggest EDM artists were anything but prepared to perform their sets at Ultra. As we’ve reported, Avicii and Afrojack both found themselves in emergency care while in Miami. With Ultra’s prime slot open on the Main Stage, the festival organizers slated an unlikely candidate for the job – deadmau5, and he now infamously remixed Martin Garrix’ “Animals” with “Old MacDonald Had A Farm” now downloadable as “Animals (Old MacDonald) remix.” Twitter wars ensued, deadmau5 was called a troll and then returned to Canada to play with his cats, Tiesto probably gave Martin a hug. This is the story you know.
But this isn’t the entire story.
WRR has exclusively learned that the true masterminds behind deadmau5’s legendary troll was in fact none other than Avicii and Afrojack. After they obviously requested to be in the same room (numerous patients tell us they heard calls of “NICK IS HERE?! MY FRIEND WHERE IS HE?” and “TIM, I’M HERE!” in Dutch accents for a solid 5 minutes) they began to ponder how they could possibly leave their mark on one of the biggest festivals of the year. Surely the fear of missing out started to set in along with their illnesses, and after hearing a little girl in the room across the hall singing with her father, they realized what they had to do. By means of his publicist, Avicii exclusively told us:
“Honestly, it just was such a genuine moment of happiness. Nick and I were both touched. We listen to somewhat complicated music, and there she was just so happy to be singing “e-i-e-i-o” with her dad. Nick even joined in on the quacks, and we were laughing about it. That’s when we got the idea to remix it a la “Animals” for her. We love Martin and “Animals,” it’s really fate that it fit so perfectly. She loved it! When I found out I wouldn’t be leaving the hospital, and Joel would be taking my spot, I actually sent him the song and asked him to play it in my honor and for this little girl. I thought people would know it was me, I mean why would deadmau5 play “Levels”? I really just wanted to dedicate to her, and maybe bring these young adults back to their childhood for a moment. Life’s short, and you realize that when you’re in a hospital for a few days.”
Since talking with Avicii’s team, we also learned that Martin was honored his song was remixed in honor of a the little girl and he wishes her a speedy recovery. As for deadmau5, we’ve heard he actually sent the girl, who reportedly has a broken leg, this play set and book we featured below, and he is entirely pleased with his shenanigans. Does this make this a troll within a troll? Were we just incepted?
