Our favorite up and comer ethnomusicologist-turned-funk-trumpeter Balkan Bump is back to stirring up the world of electric groove with his new single, “Give Me Something to Funk.” Over the past year, Will Magid has grown his Balkan Bump project exponentially, from being dubbed Gramatik’s protege after their collab “Aymo” before joining the Re:Coil tour to dropping his dynamic self titled EP Balkan Bump. Magid crosses between genres no one would ever expect to find a home in the EDM world. Taking his worldly inspirations and fusing them with his expert horn dexterity, Magid immediately snatches up your attention. Balkan Bump is the perfect ensemble to revel in when looking for a refreshing taste of music.
His latest single, “Give Me Something to Funk,” shows an exponential growth of Magid’s production skills. What we are sure is going to be a Balkan Bump signature, the track launches with a powerful trumpet section before a rocking guitar and powerhouse vocals join in union. We definitely feel Magid coming through on wanting to “give you my love” with the energy turned up to 11 for all us funk fiends out there. We also get that harmonic play through the trumpet section that nods to the inspirations from the Balkans in Eastern Europe that inspired this whole project. All in all, “Give Me Something to Funk” is a testament to a successful beginning to a long and fruitful career.
