Lately it seems people have been digging into Bassnectar’s Facebook page as I have seen a few old statuses from way back and pictures popping up on my feed. Talk about a blast from the past. The pictures are grainy, the venues are tiny, and Lorin’s hair has yet to reach the Fabio status that it has today. Most of the photos were taken during his “Adventures in Bassnectarland” tour that took place in 2008, a year before Cozza Frenzy was officially released and it looks like so much fun.
Compared to today, I think the biggest difference is how close Lo is to the crowd. Someone could have reached up and started throwing down a b2b set with him if they weren’t immediately dragged away by security. Check out one of the photos
After flipping through photos and fighting back the tears, the next biggest attraction was his status updates. He is constantly in touch with his fan base even though the entire year’s feedback total 60 likes and 14 comments. Check out the first part of his first post of 2008 and there whole thing here.
Even in ’08 when “Bassnectar” wasn’t a household name, Lo was still socially conscious supporting the Tibetian People’s Uprising Movement’s “March to Tibet”
How about some throwback Fliers promoting the tour?
When was the last time Nectar opened up for someone?
After the “Adventures” tour, the crew put together a video edit that encompasses all that the Nectar movement was about back then. Small, sweaty venues full of Bassheads new, old, big, and small. It must have smelled great at these shows. If you watch the video below all the way till the end you’ll see he still had half his face shaved.
After the “Adventures” tour wrapped up in the fall there was only one more stop to be made…New Year’s Eve. This party took place in San Francisco with Nectar opening for Thievery Corporation and playing until the wee hours of the morning. Check the rest of his end of the year status update here.
