Pennsylvania’s most premier dubstep festival is slated to take over Four Quarters Farm from July 26-31st. This five day dub fest is notorious for bringing some of the best dubstep acts under one giant festival. We’ll see performances from artists like GTA, G Jones, Dieselboy, Downlink, Wuki, and Illenium. Unlike other music festivals, this is a five day campout on a massive farm in Artemas, PA. Surviving this bass bringing festival is no easy task and we’re here to help you prepare in the best way possible. If you haven’t purchased a ticket to Big Dub yet, they can be found here. Depending on what ticket you buy, that will decide where you camp. Make sure you plan ahead with friends so you can avoid confusion when it comes to setting up camp in your designated area! Without further ado, these are RaverRafting’s five tips to surviving this five day camp out!
1. Pace Yourself. Be Responsible.
Although this might come off as the most captain obvious of our five tips, it’s certainly the most important and the most disregarded. Most people’s bodies are not prepared to handle five straight days of dancing, partying, and participating in activities at the festival. It’s essential not to drink to much or to eat too much “candy” on your first or second night there. A rough night or a massive hangover due to excessive partying can ruin your festival experience faster than you can say “chug.” Rather than post pictures of the festival goers who have gone way too hard, we’ll leave at just saying, don’t be that guy.
2. Prepare Prepare Prepare!
Before even considering leaving for the festival, you need to double check your triple checks of everything you plan to bring to the festival. There’s nothing worse than driving countless hours and setting up your camp only to realize you forgot an essential item needed for festivals. The only thing worse is waking up face down in the mud after one of the nights (see step 1 to avoid this). Thankfully, Big Dub was nice enough to create a list of items you’ll need to survive the long weekend. You can find that list here. Obviously, acquaint yourself with the items on this list and be sure to bring along most of them. They also have a list of items to NOT bring, which can be found here.
3. Gathering Your Bearings Beforehand
Due to the fact that you might be arriving at the festival towards night, it’s best to familiarize yourself with the festival and its dimensions. Nothing is worse than wandering aimlessly around a festival not having a clue where you’re going. As aforementioned, there are several different areas to camp depending on the ticket you purchased, you don’t want to end up in the wrong camp area by accident. Big Dub has provided a map of Four Quarter Farm with all stages, activities, and camp sites labeled. It can be found here.
4. Participate in Activities
Obviously this is a music festival that is going to have some bass bringing dubstep to melt our brains. However, there is more to this festival than just the legendary lineup. Starting on Tuesday, the festival will offer activities for all the patrons to participate in. Some of these include morning yoga, badass popcorn movie cuddle, and Camp Vader. Yes, Camp Vader is exactly what you think it is, Star Wars fans unite!!! Activities are a great way to meet other festival goers who you can proceed to hangout with for the rest of the weekend. Nothing is better than meeting some other dedicated dubheads. The full list of activities can be found here.
5. Meet People & Make Friends
One of the most important of our five tips, this can be a lifesaver like none other. Making friends with those camping around is essential in order to keep thieves away. Very often at festivals people will aimlessly search tents during headliners in order to steal any valuables they can. By buddying up with those camping around you, you can help watch each others stuff from wanting criminals. Now that the scary part is out of the way, meet people because it’s part of the experience! You can meet some of the nicest, good hearted, and interesting people at music festivals. Go with the flow and don’t let your thoughts get in the way of too much. Most importantly, have fun!
Although this is a fairly simple guide to conquering this renowned dubstep fest, we hope it has helped you out! Tickets are still available and can be found on Big Dub’s website. We hope to see you out in Pennsylvania in just under a month!
