Grammy award-winning producer, singer, and songwriter Calvin Harris has announced an exclusive residency deal at Hakkasan Nightclub, the new mega-club opening at the MGM Grand in April 2013.
Calvin Harris is locked for 46 dates at Hakkasan Nightclub and 22 at the Wet Republic (Dayclub), both of which are at the MGM Grand.
Harris via press release,
“I am excited to be part of this historic venture, it will be a new era for Las Vegas and for the dance music scene.”
Hakkasan opening certainly will be a part of the new era for Las Vegas and the dance music scene. With a rumored unlimited bankroll, the first announced signing had to be a big one and it certainly is.
From a business standpoint, I love the Calvin Harris residency at Hakkasan. His collaborations with Rihanna and Florence Welch have solidifed him as a superstar not only in EDM, but pop music as well.
Calvin Harris’ mainstream appeal separates him from most of the other residencies announced this year. For example Eric Prydz‘s “Black Dice” at the Wynn / Encore may appeal to the more die-hard dance music fans, but he’s a hard sell to those who don’t listen to the genre. Calvin Harris is not.
When Hakkasan opens in April, it will “revolutionize” Las Vegas club life by bringing over 75,000 square feet, five stories, full restaurant, super VIP ultralounge and more.
Notes:
- The rumor is that a billionaire oil emperor is funding Hakkasan.
- The length of the Calvin Harris’ contract is 20 months.
- Before this he was on a two-year residency deal at Wynn Resorts.
- Hakkasan is a joint venture between Hakkasan LTD and Angel Management Group.
