Tiesto has signed a 20-month exclusive “Club Life” residency with Hakkasan Nightclub. He is the second superstar dj to leave Wynn, following Calvin Harris to the new club. Included in the contract will be 20 or more dates at the WET REPUBLIC Ultra Pool.

Grammy award-winning producer, singer, songwriter Calvin Harris has announced an exclusive residency deal at Hakkasan Nightclub and Wet Republic ULTRA Pool at the MGM Grand in April 2013.

Hakkasan was set to open on New Years Eve, but more multi-million dollar expansion plans have caused a slight delay and we should see it’s opening in the Spring 2013. What is Hakkasan you ask? Only a 75,000 square foot compound at the MGM with nighclub, restaurant, lounge and pool. So big that it needs to employ 500 people just to operate it.
What has rival club openers grumbling are the mega contracts that they’re signing dj’s to. We know money talks, but holy crap there is a rumored $65 million contract between Deadmau5 and a few of the other top dj’s of the world (LVSun) that includes crazy perks like Maybach’s, suites and more. How you make money when you’re paying someone millions to spin for a few hours is beyond me.

So how is Hakkasan able to do this? Oil money. People in Vegas had to wonder where they were getting the funding to sign these crazy contracts in the already super competitive market.
One source talked to the Las Vegas Sun,
“The Hakkasan venture is bankrolled and backed by a mega-wealthy Middle East billionaire. He was a regular high roller at another luxurious Las Vegas nightspot but became disgruntled when he was turned down for a specific table that he wanted one night. He said he was disrespected; he said he’d open his own place to teach them a lesson.”
An expensive lesson for the existing mega clubs that have enjoyed a good run with the explosion of dance music in America. It will be tough to compete with a club that has an unlimited bankroll, but it’s Vegas and anything can happen right?
