Something I always tell people when describing the event Ultra Music Festival is that when the music stops, tens of thousands of people leave Bayfront Park and descend upon downtown Miami. It’s like we own the night. Although it may be the most peaceful mob ever assembled, thousands of people naturally cause problems for local businesses and anyone who happened to make the mistake to visit Miami unaware of Winter Music Conference and Ultra.
The City of Miami will vote on resolution that aims to restrict Ultra to one weekend given the impact the festival will have on local businesses and area residents. Note nothing has passed yet and no one is sure what will happen if it does… but still it’s extremely concerning for fans who have already purchased tickets. (Crossfade)
After releasing Phase One of their lineup last week, it’s hard to imagine what kind of impact a cancellation would have on the festival. You can throw two weekends of Coachella because it’s a camping festival hosted at Empire Polo Club, not to be confused with downtown Miami. Imagine what a cancellation will do to the artist contracts, sponsors, tickets, hotels and everything else!
At this time there’s too much money involved for the second weekend to just go away, we’ll keep you updated as this story evolves.
