Last night, November 11th, 2014, the legendary mau5 played an intimate show at the Knockdown Center in Queens, New York. The free concert, which was put on by Honda Stage, began promptly at 7:30 PM with the eclectic sounds of Eekkoo ringing throughout the venue. The line was long, though it moved rapidly once the doors opened. The ticketing process was quick and before fans knew it they were inside the venue, being gifted free headphones and flickering blue shades. Water was cheap, food was reasonable and no alcohol was available – this was truly an event about the music.
Overall I was very impressed with how smoothly this free show ran. Everything from the lights, to the camera men and security was top of the notch. The Knockdown Center is a fairly large setting and I found there to be a lot of space to move and enjoy the music.
Deadmau5 came on at 9:00 PM and played for roughly an hour an a half. His track selections came from his newly released “5 Years of Mau5” compilation project. The album is equipped with a club edit of heavy hitting classic “Strobe” along with tear-jerking favorites “Raise Your Weapon” and “I Remember.” There is always a slew of remixes on the two-disk bundle from names like Botnek, Madeon and Shiba San. Mark your calender, this twenty-two track release will be available on iTunes on November 24th.

This Honda Stage run event was easily the best free concert that I’ve ever been too, and I think that anyone in attendance would agree. It had seriously felt as if the entire crowd was made up of only die-hard deadmau5 fans. We’ll be sure to post the full video recording when and if it’s uploaded to YouTube.
