It’s not often that an 18-year-old producer without a single release can surface and impress, but Andrei Stephen and his remix of “Some Chords” did just that. The track was his submission into Beatport and Deadmau5’s “Some Chords (Dillon Francis Remix)” remix competition, where the winner of the contest is awarded a Beatport release on an exclusive mau5trap remix compilation. With such high stakes, the competition is stiff, and after sifting through the submissions, we came across Andrei Stephen’s rendition – an enthralling future house reimagination that is clearly inspired by an electro style.
Not only did Stephen’s remix manage to keep the right elements of the original that made it so successful, but the track also served as a canvas for him to infuse his groovy future house style. The addition of techno-esque synths and bass lines turns the melody-driven original into a darker offering more fitting for a London warehouse.
