Deadmau5’s licensing agent Live Nation Merchandise just signed a deal with Square Enix. Square Enix is mostly recognized for flagship games like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, but they’re also the owners of Taito Corporation. Taito Corporation happens to own the rights to Space Invaders, Bubble Bobble and even Tomb Raider.
So what does this mean for Deadmau5? According to the press release they’re going to “create a lifestyle brand crossing a myriad of categories launching in the high-end and specialty markets.”
This could mean anything from video games, cartoon series to plush dolls similar to Hello Kitty or Domo. On a larger scale it represents a beautiful fusion between electronic dance music and video game / fantasy culture. Deadmau5’s brand has already crossed over to the mainstream, linking him with Square Enix is a perfect fit for the future.
“Bringing [deadmau5 and Space Invaders] together is more than a collaboration, it is a revolution in popular culture,” said Janet Dwoskin, Vice President of Licensing for Live Nation Merchandise. “This is going to be a very exciting and unique program.”
It looks like a dream come true for the young Joel Zimmerman.
