Although he had sworn to be done with Twitter, the mau5 returned yet again yesterday to publicly call out some VIPs who were ignoring the performance, and texting in the front row of his show at Mansion club in Miami. Deadmau5, who has often expressed his disdain for the elitism of club VIPs (having stated that “fans come before bottle poppers”), posted a picture of the VIPs on Instagram, then further reproached them on Twitter:
Joel (Deadmau5) had more to say about the issue later on during a chat with some fans on his new subscription-based website, “deadmau5 live“, taking a stab at these “trust fund kids”:
“I fucking reamed out my agent for making me deal with that…Putting fans in the back and trust fund kids up front is fucking stupid as fuck.”
He then claimed that he “won’t be playing any more Miami clubs”, as he’d rather “rent a venue / parking lot / beachfront and fuckin’ do it right.”
It’s pretty commendable for such a big artist to voice his opinion on these sensitive issues, even if it does leave a few of the club’s top paying VIPs a bit disgruntled. Seeing as Joel has been a part of the scene since his teenage years, and has watched it evolve, it’s understandable that he finds the immense commercialization of dance music to be outrageous, which he has been bold enough to let us all know.
Although this New Years Day show was not such a great way to start off 2014, Deadmau5 is sure to have an exceptional year ahead of him, with a new album coming, as well as a massive tour in the works. On the chat, he revealed his objectives for this upcoming tour:
“My own tour, my own venues, my own prices, my own policies…Seriously, I just want to have great fuckin’ shows with great people, not deal with VIP bullshit, overcharging for fucked up shit, etc. etc…We’re trying our best to shoot for fall for the ‘big ass show’ project we’ve been working on for the past 2 years, but ABSOLUTELY worst case… spring 2015.”
More details on this tour and album to come!
