Now that the champagne has run out and the resolutions have been set – it’s time to reminisce on the unforgettable moments that made up our favorite New Year’s Eve celebration, Decadence Arizona.
The sixth annual Decadence Arizona drew in thousands of festival goers on December 30 and 31 at Rawhide Event Center in Chandler, Arizona. The venue was transformed into the ultimate New Year’s music festival with rave vendors around every corner, food and drinks to keep you fueled all night, and electronic dance music that flowed from three revamped stages, Grand Pavilion, Royal Circus, and The Playhouse.
Decadence delivered explosive performances from dance music’s most sought-after artists including AC Slater, ARIUS, Blossom, Dillon Francis, Diplo, Galantis, Gerry Gonza, Griztronics (GRiZ b2b Subtronics,) Illenium (Ascend Live,) Skrillex, Tchami x Malaa: No Redemption. Adam Beyer, Ardalan, Dab The Sky (Dabin b2b Said The Sky,) Fisher, Jamie Jones, Nora En Pure, Space Jesus, Whipped Cream, and more.
This year, event organizers, Relentless Beats stated that they were implementing some changes based on attendee feedback. Some of these changes included main stage reconfiguration to allow for more dance floor space and more entrance/exit points, increase in water stations and heated areas, and capacity control for a more comfortable experience overall. You asked and Relentless Beats delivered. We can happily confirm that these improvements were made!
Day one began with a hint of Dab The Sky and a whole lot of No Redemption from the powerhouse duo, Tchami x Malaa. Dab The Sky entranced us at The Royal Circus with a cycle of melodies, bass, lasers, REPEAT. Meanwhile at main stage, Grand Pavilion, Tchami x Malaa were getting the party properly started with their signature bass house.
This year’s Decadence introduced us to a new, “Weird & Wonderful” world aka The Playhouse, equipped with a three channel silent disco, costumed performers, giant illuminating mushroom decor, an interactive photo booth, and a Tito’s vodka bus/lounge ideal for lounging and drinking. The three channels, Weird & Wonderful, RBDeep, and Bass Face, provided music from 25 local favorites with varying genres to suit your mood. It was a nice little getaway – you just throw on some headphones, jump from channel to channel, and get lost in the music.
After our little adventure down the rabbit hole of The Playhouse, it was time to get in touch with our feelings in preparation for Illenium’s Grand Pavilion takeover. Illenium captured our hearts with a stellar live set, dropping heart-tugging Ascend originals, “Good Things Fall Apart,” “Broken Ones,” “Takeaway,” and many more. Tears and confetti streamed down, it was a very special moment for the Illenials of Decadence.
The first night concluded with closing acts, Skrillex and Adam Beyer. While Skrillex served his grand finale at main stage, we spent the night at the Royal Circus for a stirring send-off from Drumcode’s very own, Adam Beyer. Beyer’s visuals flashed to every dark pummeling beat and it was tech perfection.
After a champagne toast and well wishes for the New Year, we were off to commemorate the final night of 2019. There was excitement in the air, everything sparkled, and we were ready for a momentous NYE celebration!
The celebration began at the Grand Pavilion with the man behind the notable Mad Decent Records, Diplo. If there’s one thing Diplo knows how to do, it’s to make you dance. His hip hop, bass, pop infused set had everything you could want, including his brand new release,”On My Mind,” his Major Lazer chart-topper, “Lean On,” and a unique take on popular radio hits, Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” and Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy.”
Next up on the roster, a change of scenery and sound, DJ/producer duo and couple goals, ARIUS at the Royal Circus. The pair brought the energy and flawless mixing to the Circus, delivering an insane mash up of Seven Lions’ “Strangers” and David Guetta’s “Titanium” with a mind-bending drop into Flux Pavilion’s classic, “I Can’t Stop.”
As the New Year was upon us, we made our way back to Grand Pavilion to get ready to count down to the most wild ride yet, JOYRYDE’s special midnight set. When the clock struck 12:00 AM, JOYRYDE asked the crowd to make some noise for 2020 and from here on out, the bass house had taken over. He threw down banger after banger including “Hot Drum” and Skrillex & Habstrakt’s “Chicken Soup.”
Concluding the night and kicking off 2020 with a bang were GRiZ b2b Subtronics and Fisher. Griztronics destroyed Grand Pavilion with bass, while dance music’s biggest party animal, Fisher kept the party alive. Fisher brought his crazy antics to the Royal Circus with all of his tech house stompers, “You Little Beauty,” “Stop It,” and “Losing It.” It was the perfect end to the night and another incredible Decadence Arizona for the books. Happy New Year!
