Christmas came early for bass music fans in the form of a new EP from rising producer Deez. Following closely behind last month’s collab EP with Tsimba, Technicolor Yawn continues to push forward the unique and versatile sound that the producer has been dominating 2016 with.
The EP introduces itself with “Pay Day”, in which Deez wears his hip-hop influences on his sleeve. While this song doesn’t have an intense “drop”, the crisp drums, hard hitting bass, and declarative vocals (“throw some Deez on that bitch”) meld perfectly to create a vibe that sets things off proper, leaving plenty of room for the high-energy tunes that follow.
From there the EP unfolds in several directions, from the old school dubstep influenced “Elixir”, to the wonky glitch-hop tune “Flabbergasted”. The EP’s middle track, “Blah”, shows off Deez’s continually developing sound design skills, gifting the listener with a variety of grimy basses full of immersive internal movement. Technicolor Yawn climaxes with “Psychosis”, a short but sweet bass assault that shows off the rhythmic nature of Deez’s style, complete with super crisp drums, and two varying drops.
This is an exciting time to be following Deez, with releases like this he is proving to the world exactly why he is part of the next generation of innovative producers who are not afraid to push the limits of what electronic music can accomplish. While the EP has only been out for a day, Deez has already received support from music fans and fellow producers alike. We spoke to the producer briefly to congratulate him on the release, and this was what he had to say to his fans:
I’m blown away by the support everyone has given it so far. Big thanks to all the people showing it love. My goal for 2017 is to release significantly more music than any previous years. I’ve got a bunch of collabs in the works and another EP in progress so be on the look out for more new material soon!
