Prior to Ultra Music Festival, Police Commissioner Marc Sarnoff predicted an onslaught of “urinating, defecating … throwing up” kids on “mind-altering drugs” wreaking havoc.” Instead the police were faced with olympic style fence jumping as people resorted to any means necessary to get into Ultra.
Sgt Freddie Cruz, spokesperson for the Miami Police Department, told the Miami News Riptide Blog,
“We had some minor narcotics sales and usage, but the biggest problem was just people trying to break in without paying.”
After learning that people were trying to swim across Biscayne Bay to make it into the festival, it’s no surprise that gatecrashers errr… fencer jumpers and not drugs were the biggest problem at Ultra.
