i_o is quickly becoming a household name and landing himself in the mind’s eye of techno addicts. When performing at EDC Las Vegas, he instantly drew in massive crowds just an hour into the festival and cementing his place at the table. With barely two years of releases under his belt, the young producer has already landed himself amongst the tastemakers at Mau5trap. Just in 2019, his fan base has exploded, with singles like “Let Me Go” and “Death by Techno” garnering millions of streams on Spotify as well as his incredible remix of Above and Beyond’s “Alchemy”. His latest EP, House of God, hit the airwaves earlier this month and is set to snatch up the techno world’s black heart.
With i_o, we get this sense of almost a reimagining of what techno can be and how vast the valley truly is. Within his own EP, the driving bass lines sink us under before his melody brings us up for air, even if it’s just for a moment. The last track, “Ghost in the Machine”, is a total refresher from the rest of House of God. There is this marriage between an intense punch of the bass, light work of the synth, and storytelling vocals.
We can’t help but feel ourselves being swept up into this, and with the partnership with video director, Leah Sems, the vision is solidified. Packed with dark imagery, what unfolds is something that many can see within themselves. The light to the dark, the ying of the yang, the dance between the good and the bad. Flickering TV’s, a neon red cross, fluttering black and white petals. For his first music video, i_o has truly delivered with the guidance of Sems, a twisted and fantastical nightmare. We can’t wait to see what comes next.
You can catch i_o on tour as support of Deadmau5’ CUBEV3 tour, check out the dates below. He will also be playing at the mainstage at Electric Zoo NY next Sunday, September 1st. You can snag up tickets here.
