Oliver Heldens seemingly popped out of nowhere with his smash-hit “Gecko.” After climbing the charts, the Heldens charted new territory by adding a vocal edit from the likes of Becky Hill. While the vocal weighed down the futuristic melody, the effort came with good intentions.
Enter Kaz James. The Australian producer released his latest remix, a minimal reinterpretation of “Gecko.” However, to call this a remix would be overstating the effort’s reinterpretation of the original’s elements. James adds more reverb and greater bass effect to the drop, clearing the deep aspects in favor of a more electro flavor. There lies a lot of potential in remixing “Gecko”‘s melody but James misses the mark in realizing a fully-fledged remix. James’ past records show creativity and hopefully he re-labels this as an edit and takes note of how to remix a future track.
