Josh Davis, better known as DJ Shadow, just blew us away with his remix of Machinedrum’s “Eyesdontlie”. Before listening to this remix, I wasn’t sure what to expect; Machinedrum’s original is a downtempo IDM track that uses some unique percussion and synth pads, and even at points was reminiscent of Disclosure. Expecting a downtempo hip-hop remix, I was quite surprised. Instead, DJ Shadow takes his hip-hop expertise to turn this track into a high energy, multi-genre remix.
Shadow takes “Eyesdontlie” and makes a track which I would rather not label for its use of different elements, but if I had to, it would be “future trap”. It features low-pitch vocal sampling and constant snare of your generic trap setup; however, it breaks at points into quicker paced distorted percussion that Shadow has made his staple. The track is really all over the place, moving from drum and bass inspired sections to trance-like breakdowns. This remix will be available July 29 via Ninjatune.
