Protocol veterans Marc Benjamin and Timmo Hendriks team up with Italian duo VY.DA for their new release “Hold Me Down.” Featuring fellow Italian singer/songwriter Alessia Labate.
Veteran producer Marc Benjamin has a reputable taste for exemplary productions, evidenced in his successful previous collaborations with heavyweights such as Laidback Luke, Benny Benassi, Yves V, and Afrojack. He’s remixed hits like Zedd’s “The Middle” and “Happy Now and has performed around the world, including Ultra Bali, and his 5-year residency at Amsterdam’s club Escape. He’s had releases on Spinnin’ Records and Steve Angello’s Size Records, Ultra Music, and Heldeep. This string of success has earned him the support of artists such as Tiesto, Steve Angello, Martin Garrix, Hardwell, David Guetta, Showtek, Zedd, Alan Walker, Avicii, R3hab, and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.
Dutch artist Timmo Hendriks first made his debut on the label in 2018 with “In My Head,” a collaboration with Lennart Schroot. Then came “Thinking About You” as part of Protocol’s “Miami 2019” EP, which has currently garnered almost 3.5M streams on Spotify. His next releases continued to show increased energy and a more mature production style, which resulted in more great collaborations such as “Into The Light” with Nicky Romero and “Keep Me Close” with Dash Berlin, hits with Trilane and Romeo Blacno, and more. “Hold Me Down” is Timmo Hendriks’s 16th Protocol release on the label (after “Something To Believe In”). There’s no stopping Hendriks now.
VY.DA first appeared on Protocol in 2020 with “Waiting To Run,” a collaboration with Mosimann, which they released earlier on HEXAGON, Revealed, STMPD RCRDS, Armada Music, and Darklight Recordings. VY.DA also made waves with their Matt Nash collaboration “Wasted Love” on Martin Garrix’s STMPD label. Propelling themselves to new heights as recently as 2021, via progressive anthem “Take Me”, on Release Deep, the imprint of UK stalwarts, Third Party, VY.DA looks to be on their most exciting chapter yet!
23-year-old Alessia Labate was first discovered at 12 on national Italian TV. Known for her ability to connect to listeners on different levels, with the ability to nail any shade of pop from bubblegum to stripped-down acoustic, her vocals and visuals always shine. As a featured vocalist, she released records on NCS, STMPD, Loudkult, Smash The House, Revealed, and more, with special features on Nicky Romero’s Protocol Radio Music, and several Spotify Editorial Playlists like NMF, Friday Cratediggers, and Fresh Finds.
Take the talents of four incredibly gifted artists combined and you get an automatic hit. “Hold Me Down” is just that, it’s the ideal progressive/big-room masterpiece. Opening up with Labate’s ethereal vocals listeners jump on a ride of lifelike melodies that gradually swell into uplifting, bouncy drops which are guaranteed to teleport you to your favorite festival’s mainstage. The lyrics empower anyone struggling to take that leap to their own happiness, sure to be relatable to anyone ready to move forward. “Hold Me Down” showcases Protocol’s signature melodic progressive sound, while perfectly highlighting both Marc and Timmo’s production style. This is also not the first time Marc and Timmo create magic together, as they already joined forces last year on their successful single “Be Alright.”
