The electric-indie duo MGMT shared some new insight on what to expect on their third, self entitled album. The new LP was, again, produced by old-schooler David Friedman, who has worked with the group since their debut album “Oracular Spectacular.” MGMT, comprised of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser have told reporters to expect even more weirdness on the next album; they’ve ditched the full band recording sessions and are focusing on experimentation:
“We’ll get involved in what we’re doing,” says Goldwasser, “and the next thing we know, we’ve been improvising for five hours.“
Their sophomore album “Congratulations” wasn’t exactly geared toward a mainstream audience, fans can expect the new album will be no different:
“We’re not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it,” says Goldwasser.
Earlier this week, a press release revealed that the new album is due out September 17th, a push from the originally set June date, and revealed the full tracklist. They’ve also collaborated with psychedelic 60’s guru, Faine Jade, on the track entitled “Introspection.” So put on your trippy hats, MGMT fans, post-September 17th will be a wild ride.
