The Belgian drum and bass producer Netsky has released a new album entitled “2” full of goodies. The album’s direction is literally all over the place. But after a listen- though several times, it’s no doubt an album that everyone should have in their collection. Without question, ‘2’ is a great source for solid drum and bass, but the album explores a deeper side of Netsky I feel we have not seen before.
The first track “Love Is Gone” takes me back to a Motown Detroit sound but then radiates an electro infused beat totally by surprise. The two songs that really stand out the most on this album in my opinion are “Come Alive” and “Give and Take”. “Come Alive” is another drum and bassy track and “Give and Take” actually was featured as a single back in January on WRR. Halfway through the album, Netsky mixes the sound up for us. For example “Squad Up” has an urban influence that reminds me of “Everyday” but featuring Jimmy Jams rapping over top.
Two tracks later, the song “Puppy” unravels into a pop-banger-esk track that has surely made a playlist or two in my library. Later on in the album a Netsky gives us “No Beginning” which if I could best describe… imagine if Lo-Fi chill had a baby with drum and bass.
But you don’t have to take my word for it. Give “2” a listen through, I think you’ll find Netsky has done an exceptional job exploring different directions of electro and each song is a gem in it’s own way.
