After announcing his Black Hole Tour earlier this summer, PEEKABOO is making his return to WAKAAN with his latest, “Black Hole”.
Dubstep producer Matthew Lucas aka PEEKABOO was born and raised in Michigan. Following in his father’s footsteps, who played the trumpet for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Matthew learned to play the trumpet and guitar all before high school. Having originally attended Western Michigan University with the hopes of becoming an engineer of horror films, which we agree, would have been really sick, it was here that he instead started the journey of his focus on producing tracks in several styles leading up to dubstep. His style today highlights playful dubstep tracks that incorporate elements of jungle, rave, trance, trap, amongst other styles.
In addition to successful tours with Ganja White Night and Rezz throughout the United States, Peekaboo has sold out numerous dates as a headliner, and he’s appeared on festival lineups all over the US, including Ultra, Nocturnal Wonderland, and Electric Zoo. His tracks, “Maniac’, and “Babatunde”, became iconic festival anthems that gained support from the big leagues Skrillex, Zeds Dead, RL Grime, Bassnectar, and more. He even became the second artist to ever do an official remix for Rezz.
Quickly creating a name for himself, PEEKABOO has made a string of massively successful EP’s like Revenge, Imposters, Maniac, and Babatunde, all on Liquid Stranger’s Wakaan label. His first EP for Zeds Dead’s Deadbeats imprint, Wrecking Ball, appeared in March of 2019, and debuted at number ten on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic chart. Even more successful than that was “Impossible”, which at the end of 2019, hit number four on that same chart.
PEEKABOO’s latest release “Black Hole” is just the start of his recently announced Black Hole Tour. This supermassive single, which is his first WAKAAN release in almost two years, is an entrancement. The steady hypnotizing beats spiral into an ominous canyon, immersing those who fall into the void. To say it’s a strong return for him is an understatement. We dare you to resist the urge to jump headfirst into the Black Hole.
