RollingStone caught up with Pharrell when he was celebrating his 40th birthday at Hakkasan Nightclub in Las Vegas. Pharrell who is currently sitting on top of the Billboard Charts with ‘Get Lucky’ his collaboration with Daft Punk talked briefly about how there was a new wave of music coming.
While blending hip hop and EDM has largely been labeled as “trap”, I think largely the point he was trying to get through is that all of the elements are kind of falling into one… which really means that traditional genres like pop, hip hop, pop punk and rock will be incorporating more and more elements from dance music.
We’re seeing it happen now as Krewella was just recently in the studio with Fall Out Boy. Before you jump on the bandwagon one way or another, I think you should be excited about the new sounds you’ll be hearing over the upcoming months and years.
What’s the next moombahton or electrohiphopsoul going to sound like?
On the next wave of music Pharrell ended saying,
I think the robots are leading, they’re definitely leading.”
We have to agree.
