Since the official release of “Sea Of Voices” I’ve seen countless remix submissions in my inbox. Most of the time I’m scared to listen to them, simply because a lot of the takes completely redirect the original and dumb it down to a formulated “banger”. Though, that’s not the case with Social Status rendition.
Social Status, real name Justin Thomson, has taken “Sea Of Voices” and played to its strengths. Off the bat the track isn’t very club friendly, and Thomson changes that by properly editing Robinson’s visions without completely skewing his original’s beauty. Through his stunning sound design he structures the track for progression and harnesses a feel good, uplifting aura. In my mind that’s what separates Social Status’ cut from the rest that I’ve heard. He doesn’t over complicate his remix and leaves the focus on the track on the vocal and original elements, before laying in his own ideas.
