Many hot alternative/indie artists include some electronic flare in their music. Thats why you may have noticed many live acts gracing major music festivals lineups this year, like Passion Pit, MGMT, Matt & Kim, Yeasayer, Cherub, Phantogram, etc. This new movement has been coined “indietronica” and it’s possible that I could be it’s number #1 fan. The mix of live instruments with bright and fun electro melodies is creativity at its best.
Portland, OR/Wasilla, AK based indie band Portugal. The Man has been tearing up stages at Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza this summer. Their live set is nothing less than awe-inspiring and their most recent album, Evil Friends, was produced with Grammy Award winning producer Danger Mouse. It sounds like his neo-psychedelia, electronica, ambient style may have influenced their remix of Grouplove’s “Shark Attack.” This remix is groovy in all the right ways.
Grouplove and Portugal. The Man are co-headlining the first leg of this summer’s Honda Civic Tour which started last week in Seattle, WA. The tour will make its across the country to Central Park Summerstage in New Your City. The tour will feature a Pop-Up Art Gallery at each tour stop. The gallery will showcase both collaborative art and individual works from musicians and visual artists.
