Pure Static is breaking into the scene in 2020, stepping out into his own refreshing sound. The Texas native, Ryan Magill, aims to weave together glitch hop, static, dub, and techno all into one monster combination of a sonic landscape. In late March, Ryan Magill released the bookending track of his EP, “Cybernetics,” to give us a taste of his style. A punching melody playfully intertwining with a thundering kick drum left us with some Mau5trap vibes. Then we got a solo single, “Frenzy”, where he takes us down a bass spiral and chops it up with warped, growling synths.
Now we can see a clearer look into Pure Static, with his freshman EP, Incoming Transmission. The four-track project dives into the layers of the static. Things kick off with “Log 36,” where we find a balance of uplifting melody and a menacing rhythm that gives us a beautiful depiction of light and dark. “R.A.V.E” bumps up the BPM and gives us a new meaning to our culture with the vocals reverberating, “Radical audio visual experience.” Magill switches it up with “Cipher”, giving way to his bass side with a healthy dose of wubs and an electrifying rainfall of synth flashing throughout. We finish out with his previously released, “Cybernetics,” and we find ourselves ready for more.
We are excited to see what’s next for Pure Static, with our palates cleansed and curiosities piqued. You can stream Incoming Transmission on Spotify, Soundcloud and Apple Music now.
