It seems like England wanted a taste of Lollapalooza considering they held the 9th annual Leopallooza during the same weekend. The festival, who has coined the term “the greatest house party… in a field,” housed headliners including Foxes, Fenech-Solar, and Dry the River. The festival prides itself on highlighting underground, obscure, and up and coming acts for a fair price. The festival didn’t headline anyone huge, so some after-hours attendees were in for a treat. Little did Leo’s guests know that Thom Yorke was setting up an unannounced DJ set on Saturday night.
According to the London Evening Standard, Yorke played around 2:30 am to a crowd of about eight people. Leopallooza’s Facebook page announced that the “surprise set” was actually planned. Yorke wanted to stay anonymous to not take away from the other undiscovered headliners. When Yorke took the stage, some guests didn’t know they were listening to one of the greatest and most influential music figures in the industry. Yorke seemed to have a great time playing for the intimate crowd. It was definitely a change of pace from his normal Radiohead or Atoms for Peace sets where he plays to crowds of thousands of people. He was spotted dancing with some of the “drunken hippies.” Unfortunately no one was able to get any footage of the rare show, but that’s what made this show even more special to its attendees. Those eight guests are lucky to have caught a once in a lifetime opportunity. For the rest of us, our opportunity will come with Radiohead’s new album coming soon.
