Today we get something really special by way of Robotic Pirate Monkey and JR Donato of Taylor Gang with a 5-song collaborative mixtape entitled “We Be Postin'”. I always love when bass artists combine with rappers, and I think Robotic Pirate Monkey found something they may want to keep pursuing with this release.
JR Donato’s verses fit perfectly over the instrumentals of Robotic Pirate Monkey, as RPM lays down just the right amount of synths and effects to keep their original sound while bringing a ton of hip-hop drum beats and dense bass to compliment the emotion of Donato’s spitting. I don’t feel at any point that either Donato or RPM overpower each other; instead you somehow find yourself paying attention to both RPM’s electronic-infused hip-hop beats and Donato’s verses simultaneously. RPM has established their own brand of “future-hop” on this one, with Donato being the perfect choice for rapping as his mellow tone yet quick deliveries suits the slow yet powerful beats of RPM. My first thoughts listening to this brought me to thoughts of Zeds Dead and Omar Linx, but I feel Robotic Pirate Monkey has done one better on this mixtape. RPM’s instrumentals emit a high-energy vibe filled with a commanding expertise of electronic production and hip-hop knowledge.
From party-ready tracks like “Drop It Low” to more relaxing ones like the Wu Tang sampled “Never Look Back”, fans of electronic and hip-hop music will want to jump all over this release. Its the perfect mixtape to enjoy as the summer winds down. You can download the entire mixtape for free here.
